The history of Pak Oriental Rugs begins in Lahore, Pakistan, where factories of the owner's father still stand. In the 1970s, the family business had expanded to larger scale manufacturing and export to Europe. Retail outlets were established in Karachi, Lahore, and Islamabad, the three main cities in Pakistan.Anjum Butt, the owner of Pak Oriental Rugs, Inc. based out of San Francisco, being quite ambitious, moved to Europe at a young age, he was only 18. While in Europe he managed to make contacts with the most well known rug retailers throughout the continent and began to supply his family's merchandise to them at wholesale costs. He helped expand the family business throughout Europe starting from Frankfurt (Germany), Copenhagen (Denmark), Brussels (Belgium), and lastly Stockholm (Sweden).
In April 1979 Anjum took a marketing trip throughout America. He ended up falling in love with San Francisco. So after 10 years of success and many established accounts in Europe, a shift to the United States was made, establishing Pak Oriental Rugs in California. Based out of a warehouse in Pier 23, in San Francisco, CA, many local retail rug dealers began to buy merchandise from Pak Oriental Rugs because of the unmatched quality and the best prices in town. Eventually Pak Oriental Rugs clientele came to include large department stores such as WJS Sloan Department stores, Macys Department Store, Liberty House Department Store, also many furniture stores, a large list of the most reputable designers in Northern California and many of the top retail rug galleries, throughout America.
In 1986 Pak Oriental Rugs moved to the San Francisco design district into the Sobel Design Building. To this day they are based out of the Sobel Design Building where they have had many successful years.

If you can’t find a rug in the size you want PAK ORIENTAL can custom make it for you. There are handmade Orientals, tribal, transitional and modern rugs from all the major rug producing countries in the world including China, India, Nepal, Turkey, Iran and Pakistan.
Q: Does PAK ORIENTAL deliver rugs?
PAK ORIENTAL can deliver your rug anywhere in the world. We can deliver your rug the next day if it’s in stock and you live in the San Francisco Bay Area. Outside the San Francisco Bay Area and anywhere throughout the world your rug can be shipped within 5 business days. Special arrangements can be discussed if needed.
Q: What is PAK ORIENTAL's return policy on rugs?
All in-stock rugs can be exchanged within 7 days of purchase with the original sales receipt. Some rugs my be final sale. PAK ORIENTAL may make special exceptions and reserves the right to do so and will notate it as such on invoices. For rugs purchased online, if you want to return the rug, shipping is your responsibility.

No, PAK ORIENTAL does not have a catalog of what we sell. Many of the rugs are one-of-a-kind items, making it impossible to maintain a catalog. PAK ORIENTAL does recommend viewing our sample rug gallery on our website to give you a good idea of the types of products available at PAK ORIENTAL. Our website is designed to give an in depth discovery of our rugs. We do have additional photographs of each rug which can be emailed to you. Rug Cleaning (Stain Removal & Wash)
Pak Oriental Rugs offers a comprehensive wash & repair service. The repair work can be diverse such as flood damage, chewing by dogs, stain removal, fire damage, general wear and tear, etc. Advice is given on the work necessary to restore the piece to its former glory, whether it be a small repair such as re-fringing of the ends or a larger project involving extensive re-weaving of large areas of the rug. Whether the repair is small or large, clients are amazed at the quality of work and often times need to be reminded of where the repairs have been made.Our wash service is one of the best in California. Our wash experts have made people smile time and time again when they see their rugs being brought back to what they looked like when they first bought them.
Rug Repair & Restoration
Our wash service always takes into consideration the quality of the rug which includes the types of dyes, the wool or silk, yes silk can be cleaned also, and the age of the rug. All of these important factors can significantly impact the outcome of your rug being washed.
One common misconception is that handmade rugs should be dry cleaned. We do not recommend dry cleaning rugs as many customers ask us if they should do this. The dry cleaners do not take into account the type of dye, the quality of the wool/silk and or the age. We have had customers bring in handmade rugs after having them ruined by large wall to wall cleaning services, and 9 times out of 10 we have been able to remove the mistakes caused by them.
Before you give you beautiful rugs to anyone else, bring them into us and you will walk out completely satisfied with the results. We recommend having your rug washed approximately every 3-5 years depending on traffic. If you spill red wine bring it in immediately, as removing red wine stains is usually a more difficult process, but never the less, it can also be removed. Animal accidents/urine etc., is another one that is very difficult to remove so if this happens bring in your rug right away.
Remember BLOT do not SCRUB. Soak as much of the liquid as you can out of the rug with a clean white cloth/towel. Additionally you can use a spoon to scoop out as much liquid as possible.
